The Neurologist who changed my medicine for epilepsy sent me to neuro-psychiatrist and he in turn sent me to a psychoanalyst.
This man does not believe that my symptoms specially anxiety and panic attacks can be caused by the cyst but are more to do with the present situation in my life.
I suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, tremors of hands, blank spells, dizzy spells, headaches, pressure in head, depression, diplopia, mood swings, I can hear the voice but cant comprehend the spoken word, tinitus, sensitive to temperature( cant tolerate both cold or hot climate),nausea, memory problems, muscle weakness in the arms.
If those on the forum have similar symptoms please let me know so I can show my psychotherapist that it can be the cyst.

Mammograms

It was announced today in the USA by the US Preventive Services Task Force that rather then women who are in the high risk category start getting mammograms at age 40 can now wait until they are 50 and that self exams may no longer be taught as they have been found not to be useful. This news has created debate both in the medical community and with women here in the US.

arachnoid cyst and swine fly

my 7 yr old son has a large arachnoid cyst on the left temporal lobe and has now been diagnosed with swine flu after having a temp of 103 and a cough. Does anyone know if this will affect his cyst or his brain?

I already have enough to worry, alone in the UK ,with all my problems of health, housing , not working , etc .
Well , now on top of everything - I worry with my daughter, who lives with boyfriend , but I am scared she has neurose, or a cyst (?)!
She turned 25 last week, but start spending loads of time on the net looking for evidence about aliens coming to our planet! Then she was convinced the end of the world will be in 2012! Now - she believes deeply, completely the Americans are behind every thing ( wars, banks, state presidents , swine flu, etc.)! There's a conspiracy about the Americans having control of everybody ( after reduction of population ) , putting chips under our skins, etc !
Now she wants to go to Africa, get a cow, chicken , a house and live free and happily...!
Don't know what to do, if she start talking about the "stuff" she sees in the Internet ( YouTube)- I will end up in a discussion with her and became very upset because of the ridiculous ( and serious)situation!!!
   Luckily, there's no money for her to go anywhere- I told her she will have to find a good job ( shes on a part time now), save money so she could go!
   So, I have to try to know who is her GP, and talk to her/him - and explain what is going on !!!
    Oh God , I need help ...1

hey all

I know I haven't been on the board in awhile, but I had a question.

last night, I felt very bad. the best way I can describe it is like, sometimes my ankles swell up and have liquid in them and they are very very very sore and tender? well last night, my head felt like that. literally.

I also had spasms (more then usual) and severe sensitivity to sound and light (the more sensetive, it seems the time the spasms came on), I also had increased confusion.

for those who have experienced hydrocephalus - does this sound familiar or what?

hi, my name is lee my recent first time visit with a neurosurgeon confirmed i have a arachnoid cyst. The radiologist after comparing contrasting ct and mri results said a probable small sub arachnoid cyst. The neuosurgeon said just arachnoid cyst but stated when questioned that it couldn't be causing any symptoms i told him of. you know, headaches, imbalance, dizziness, ringing in ears, nausea. i'm so relieved to have found this site and that i'm not alone. i'v lots of questions.

I have some pretty challenging days. I have shed enough tears over my condition and some days I need a good laugh so I thought I would start a place where we could share some of our giggles with one another. So, here's one from my childhood:

Or my grandmother used to always tell us to make sure we were wearing clean underwear before we went any where. One day when I was 10 I said grandma if we are in a bad accident no ones going to be able to tell if our underwear was clean this morning or not. My grandfather accused me of sassing, but the two of them couldn't keep a straight face.

Fevers

I usually have a low body temperature... 98.1, 97.9, 98.0 usually right around 98 degrees. I have been cycling for the last 6 weeks, as I do with my condition and as such I have been running a fever around 99.8 and 99.9 the last two times I've had my temperature taken. I was just wondering if anyone else spikes fevers when their cysts are 'acting up,' 'flaring,' or 'cycling?'

Newly diagnosed! Yea!! =)

Sunday morning (09/20/09) (approximately two o'clock in the morning) I made a trip to the emergency room.

Symptoms seemed to be that of a heart attack or stroke -- perhaps.

Numbness in my right arm.

Headache.

Lightheaded.

Shaking and jittery.

EKG -- normal.

Bloodwork -- normal.

CT scan (head) -- not normal.

CT analysis summary,

1) CSF densities are present in the anterior aspect of each middle cranial fossa, left greater than right as described above. These probably represent arachnoid cysts.

2) Left temporal lobe appears slightly small in size. This could be secondary to congenital hypoplasia or may appear small secondary to displacement by the arachnoid cyst.

3) No intracranial mass or mass effect is seen.

For the most part I have been asymptomatic however this could perhaps explain certain health issues I have had over the years -- especially since 2004.

Approximately three weeks ago I began having daily headaches with some slight lightheaded sensations.

Currently...

Variable headache.

Variable lightheaded sensation.

Variable confusion / clarity (sigh).

Variable speech / speaking issues.

Variable balance / walking issues.

Variable numbness in right pinky and left ring finger.

Variable jittery / shaking.

Variable single quick shots of pain down limbs.

Chronic body aches.

I had an appointment with a Neurologist on Friday (09/25/2009) who evaluated me and reviewed the CT scan films.

According to him it must just be really bad headaches -- which never stop -- always persistent -- uh huh. =)

He is requesting a MRI and EEG.

To add insult to injury he prescribed me -- MOBIC. lol

Oh yeah -- I have no benefits. =)

From what I understand I will probably get turned down on my SSI claim and the county health department will probably deny me because I own a luxurious automobile with a book value of approximately forty five hundred dollars. =)

Despite that I got laid off on 09/06/09 -- perfect timing huh lol?

Had no prior benefits (1099 based employment).

Have 10K in credit card debt and 20K in student loan debt.

I'll get denied. =)

No worries -- bank robbery plan is in the works. =)

I'm going to work on scanning my CT films and posting them -- perhaps someone could explain them to me.

For the doctors don't want to waste their time reviewing the data with me.

Researching open minds

I came across research that was being done in another industry, purely by chance... I guess you could say curiosity got the better of me. But, that's the wonderful thing about free trade and industry if you can't find what you are looking for or need in one area you might be able to find something in another. Please research and read the findings in a report about a condition called neuropathic hydrocephalus. Why you might ask? In the specific report I came across it explains that the condition is a genetic mutation and a test was being developed to check for the condition in cattle. Why might this be important? If tests can be developed to check animals for such a condition it's not to far off to check humans for the same condition.

Health care reform

This isn't a political website, in fact even when there is a perfect health system, we as Arachnoid Cyst patients may still suffer without treatment. Our first battle is with the doctors who doubt us. But there are some of us here who have no health insurance in America and then there are some of us who are covered. And then there are those of us who live in a country with a National Health System. Whatever our insurance situations may be right now, how do we feel about the changes about to take place in America? I'm going to set up an anonymous poll. Feel free to fill it in.

I love Dr. Redding. He's a very decorated doc and seems to know his stuff. He spends time, he's funny and comes off as very caring. Some of my close friends and family will be to differ only because he hasn't cut my scalp open yet to "make my pain go away"
I personally appreciate that, every doc that I work with has told me that I really want to avoid brain surgery at all costs. Being a healthcare worker, I agree....But he makes me check in with him every 6 months now, it was 3 and really wants to see if we can get the symptoms under control.

but anywho-I like em' and I think he's an asset to neurosurgery in my community.

Over Heating

Does anyone else, if you get over heated, start trembling/ shaking, sweating, become pale in color, have a feeling as though you are going to pass out, get weak in your legs or knees, and just have an over all uneasiness about yourself until your temperature returns to normal? Irregardless of how much water you consume. Or what activity you were doing such as walking, maybe taking a shower, maybe entering your home from outside, maybe walking through a department store, or maybe even laying down covered with to many blankets. Has anyone had similar experiences? I used to love soaking in a hot bathtub after working an 8 or 12 hour shift and now I can't tolerate taking anything warmer then a lukewarm shower... and sometimes that's to hot.
