Quote: MRI is the diagnostic procedure of choice because of its ability to demonstrate the exact location, extent, and relationship of the arachnoid cyst to adjacent brain or spinal cord. Myelography and CT myelography remain of diagnostic value, especially for cases that are not definitive on MRI. Plain radiographic findings are nonspecific and have little to offer in the diagnosis of arachnoid cysts, although changes in skull contour may be detected on skull radiographs performed for other indications, such as trauma. Cranial ultrasonography is an important diagnostic tool during the first year of life, and although symptomatic arachnoid cysts are comparatively rare in infants, ultrasound provides a noninvasive imaging technique with high yield in the detection and characterization of cystic masses. Although angiography can show associated anomalies of venous drainage and the relationship of the lesion to normal vasculature if needed for surgical planning, in practice, angiography is rarely performed, because CT angiography or magnetic resonance angiography may provide the same information noninvasively. copied from eMedicine

Please, I need to know if an AC can have different sizes in different scanners. Is possible to check my last 3 MRI's comparing all of them , if I have the CD's ? Could be the person who does the reading / report - the one who does it wrong ? Had a MRI at Guy's & St Thoma's Hospital on 4/4/07 The cyst was 5.7cm x 4.1cm x 3.2cm Another MRI at Maudsley Hospital on 1/5/08 The cyst was - 6cm x 5cm x 5cm My last MRI was at Queens Sq Hospital on 26/5/09 On the report doesn't says the size - but says that there's been no significant interval change since April 2008 !
Please, I need to know if this is possible - what that mean? That my MRI made last year was wrong?
If I have the CD's from the 3 different hospitals - is possible to compare them and check where is the "mistake"? I'm going nuts , much more now ... |

| #3 | Your arachnoid cyst has grown from the first mri to the second and probably to the third mri. They can grow suddenly after being stable for years. |

Thanks Gemma, I know that , but my question is about the cyst getting bigger on second MRI - and getting ( again) exactly same size as the first MRI. I know they can get bigger, and probably ; they can get smaller ! But what the docs are saying now - is that different scanners can show different sizes -IS THAT TRUE? Sorry, don't know if it's difficult to understand me |

| #5 | Hmm, sounds like they are talking around the fact that your cyst got bigger. I wish it could be simpler with neuros here in England, but it isn't! |

| #6 | Jesus!!! I had an MRI SCAN with contrast, 2 days ago - only today I read awful stories about bad experiences with the dye they inject in your vein! The other thing is that who asked for that SCAN , was not the neuro, but an ENT specialist from St Thomas Hosp - the first place where I found out about my AC ! |
