At least when you have a shunt, they no longer have to do spinal taps. They just tap the shunt. But yes, spinal taps, lumbar punctures, anything involving sticking a huge needle in your lumbar spine hurts like hell. Nurses try to numb it with lidocain , but doesn't help a lot. I kept going to doctors who told me there was nothing they could do or it wasn't the cyst. plus I was really hoping I could just get better.
